Electric Incense stages a fragmented female face, crossed by successive layers like veils between presence and disappearance. The gesture of the hand, associated with the cigarette, diverts the ritual of incense towards a contemporary, profane and electric gesture.
At a distance, the portrait asserts itself with its intensity and frontal gaze; up close, the material reveals a dense, almost vibrating network of lines. The work evokes a modern spirituality, where the sacred blends with the everyday, and where smoke, trace, and light become signs of passage and memory.
